King Abdullah the second is the king of Jordan. Jordan is a small country in the Middle East and is not oil rich, unlike its neighbors. It is also different to its neighbors in that it is not conservative and it has a parliament with a Prime Minister. King Abdullah is quite different to what you would expect of an Arab ruler. The reasons below will show why King Abdullah is the coolest head of state.
He is an adrenaline junkie-
He skydives, motorcycles, rally races, and scuba dives. Before he became king, the King of Jordan was an avid adventurist. He is an owner of a Harley Davidson and loves biking. He actually starts a royal tour documentary on a Harley Davidson. He also is a keen rally racer and here is a video of him racing.
He grants wishes to seriously ill children-
He helps terminally ill children in his kingdom and grants them their wishes. When two cancer-suffering children had a dream of flying, the King took them on a helicopter ride which he piloted himself. Not only can the king pilot a helicopter, he helps dying children. He has a cancer health center that aims to help cancer-suffering children and their parents. King, pilot, and humanitarian. What the heck am I doing with my life?
Shortly after his accession to the throne, the king wanted to see what his kingdom was like for himself and began dressing as an average Jordanian. He saw how his people lived and not what his bureaucrats and yes men told him. He implemented economic changes that helped improve the standard of living for many Jordanians. His actions have also made the bureaucrats work a little harder as they are terrified that they might be dealing with the king.
The Warrior King-
King Abdullah served 4 years in the army and was trained at the famous Sandhurst Military school in the United Kingdom. For this reason, he is dubbed the “Warrior King”. He can command an attack helicopter and is a former special forces soldier.
When Daesh/ISIS released a video of a Jordanian pilot being burned, the king responded swiftly and images of him in uniform swarmed the internet. The royal court was quick to deny that he personally led airstrikes on Daesh/ISIS.
He is the most popular leader in the Middle East-
The king has very high approval ratings and is without a doubt, the most popular Arab leader. His people love him. During the Arab Spring, Jordan did not face the same protests that became apparent in other countries. Only after the crisis made by the enormous number of Syrian refugees flooding Jordan and the knock-on effects from the Arab Spring such as higher oil prices did protests occur. The king listened to the protesters and made changes to the government. He made the Parliament more representative of the population and changed the prime minister.
